This is a reader's letter sent in to the Oxford Mail for publication in the newspaper.

I would like to know why the city council has removed all the recycling bins from convenient locations (such as in the Headington car park, next to Waitrose) and, it appears, from all council land.

There were bins at Sainsbury’s in Kidlington, and since these have been removed Sainsbury’s has had to pay Oxford Direct Services, which is owned by the council, to clear the rubbish which has been left where the bins were.

There are still recycling bins at various Oxford Brookes University residences, but these are not for public use,

Oxford has been proud in the past for having a good record of recycling much of its waste, but now there will certainly be much less recycling and more fly-tipping.
