MATT Williams is calling on Chinnor to start 2020 on the right foot at Hull Ionians this weekend.

The Thame-based side return to National League 1 action in Yorkshire on Saturday following the Christmas break.

Chinnor’s players reported back for training on Monday and are raring to go for the second half of the season after their seven-match unbeaten run was ended by Richmond in the final game of 2019.

It saw them slip to sixth in the table, but they are only nine points behind the leaders and director of rugby Williams is hoping to begin the new year with a victory.

He said: “We were pleased for the Christmas break – it came at the right time.

“It was obviously a disappointing result against Richmond, but after 16 games the boys needed a break and we’re looking forward to Hull away.”

Ehize Ehizode returns for Chinnor and Camilo Parilli-Ocampo (torn bicep) could make his debut, but Chris Elder (ankle) is still injured.

Saturday’s fixture goes ahead despite the death of Hull player Billy Hardy earlier this week.

Williams added: “All of us at Chinnor send our condolences to Hull.

“It’s always a tough time when you lose someone within a club.”

Henley Hawks are faced with a mounting injury list ahead of their trip to lowly Bournemouth in National League 2 South.

Connor Morrison and Tom Hall appear set to miss the rest of the season, while Samir Kharbouch and Angus Hinton are also unavailable.

Will Bordill, Ben Bolster and Jake Albon return as second-placed Henley aim to maintain pressure on leaders Tonbridge Juddians.

Fourth visit third in South West 1 East as Oxford Harlequins travel to Wiltshire to face Royal Wootton Bassett.

Quins have the chance to close the 11-point gap on their opponents and name the same side that beat Windsor 34-29 before Christmas.

Meanwhile, Witney are bidding to continue their 100 per cent record in Southern Counties North at bottom side Chesham.

Finn Ayris makes his first-team debut, while Matt Clarke replaces the injured Jordan Pratt and Rikki Dore comes in on the bench.
