CHINNOR’S poor record against Bishop’s Stortford continued as they lost 47-10 in Hertfordshire.

The defeat, their heaviest of the season, leaves the side fifth in National League 1, although they are only 11 points off the leaders.

It also means Chinnor are still searching for their first win at Silver Lees and have now lost eight of their last nine matches against Stortford.

Despite having a lengthy injury list, the Thame-based side started well and took a 3-0 lead thanks to Ben Palmer’s penalty.

But Stortford, who began the day second bottom, responded well to score five tries and race 33-3 in front.

Joss Linney (2), Nick Hankin, George Keen and Tom Banks, who kicked four conversions, crossed for Stortford.

Chinnor, though, refused to give in and reduced the deficit to 23 points at the break when Greg King crashed over and Palmer added the extras.

Stortford reasserted their dominance, with Rob Duff going over, Banks converting, to make it 40-10.

Chinnor enjoyed prolonged periods of pressure, but were unable to break through.

Duff then ran in his second for Stortford, Banks again converting, as the hosts comfortably saw out the game.

Play-off chasing Henley Hawks earned a 13-10 win at Dings Crusaders in National League 2 South.

Crusaders’ Steve Plummer and Hawks’ Roddy Giles exchanged penalties as the sides were locked at 3-3.

Another Giles penalty put Henley in front on 51 minutes.

But Tom Anderson’s try, Plummer adding the extras, saw the home side go 10-6 in front.

Henley fought back to secure the win with ten minutes to go, though, as Marcus Lowe went over, Giles converting.
