MATT Williams insists Chinnor can ill-afford to underestimate lowly Esher when the sides meet at Kingsey Road tomorrow.

The Thame-based club will be looking to record their first victory in three weeks after falling to back-to-back defeats in National League 1.

Esher, who sit two points above the relegation zone, seem the ideal opponents for Chinnor to arrest their winless run and record only a third home success of the season.

But the London-based side will be in a confident mood after recording three victories in their last four games.

And director of rugby Williams wants no repeat of a fortnight ago, when Chinnor were beaten by basement boys Loughborough Students.

He said: “The thing about this league is you can’t underestimate anyone, as we found out two weeks ago.

“Esher have historically been a good team, they have a half-decent squad on paper and our home form has not been the best.

“What we have got to do is find consistency at home.”

Chinnor were denied at least a losing bonus point when conceding a late converted try at second-placed Blackheath last weekend.

Williams, whose side are sixth in the table and nine points off leaders Old Elthamians, is enthused by his players’ performances, but knows there is still room for improvement.

He said: “It’s pleasing, but it’s equally as frustrating, because we’ve had the rough end of the draw in several games this year.

“I think we just need a tiny bit of luck, a little more consistency in our decision-making and cutting out unforced errors and then we can be even higher than we are.”

Chinnor make five changes, one positional, with Matt Beesley, Ben Betts and Joe Dancer, who is subject to a fitness test, returning to the pack, while Jack Ramshaw moves into the second row.

In the backs, captain Danny Barnes is rested and Greg King takes his place at inside centre.

Third-placed Henley Hawks make five changes for the visit of Old Albanians in National League 2 South.

Zak Clarke, Ross Parkin, David Hyde and Scott White come into the pack, while scrum-half Leo Webb returns.

In South West 1 East, Witney host high-flying Royal Wootton Bassett buoyed by their first home win.

Head coach Richie Craig makes three changes from last week’s victory over Oxford Harlequins, with Matt Clarke, Ted Landray and Andy Melbourne handed starts.

Quins name the same team for their trip to Salisbury as they look to end a run of five successive defeats.

Banbury bid to sign off for Christmas with a sixth-straight league win when they host Beaconsfield.
