BANBURY’S players are used to digging deep for each other on the pitch and now they have donated more than £500 to help their injured teammates.

A welfare fund has been set up to help sidelined members across all three senior teams in their recovery.

A number of players have suffered injuries so far this season, with John Scales, Dan Kirwin and Jimmy Manley all unable to work at the moment.

The fund was launched a fortnight ago and, along with an auction last Saturday on the journey back from the first team’s match at Royal Wootton Bassett, it is proving popular.

Head coach Matt Goode said: “We raised more than £500 and it was just from the people on the bus.

“We’ve also got the second and third team players who will be putting some money in this week, so we’re looking to double that.

“It’s great to have the fund and it’s for people who are injured, maybe even for a few weeks but they need specialist treatment, to make sure they are cared for.”
