KIAN Downes won three titles as Abingdon-based Miss Poppy’s Gymnastics club enjoyed success at the UK National competition in Milton Keynes.

The six members picked up 17 medals – seven gold, six silver and four bronze – between them on a memorable day in Buckinghamshire.

All five boys achieved success in every event they entered at the competition.

Downes starred in the level 5 (13-15 year) category, winning gold in the floor, vault and high bar events.

He beat teammate Oliver Markham, who was also second on the vault, by just 0.20 points in the floor competition.

In the level six (11-12 year) category, Charlie Baker was crowned national champion on the floor and P-bars, while he also took silver on the vault.

Tai Anderson clinched gold in the vault and silver on the floor.

Emilio Quashie took silver on the P-bars and bronze on the floor and vault.

Mekayla Heard was crowned national champion on the beam with a score of 13.2 in the level 7 (nine year) girls category.

She also took silver on the bars and bronze on the floor and vault.
