OLI Johnson says that Oxford United’s performance on Saturday showed that they can mix it with the best.

The winger scored the second goal as the U’s defeated Swindon – and the former Norwich man was full of praise for his teammates.

“We really dug deep out there,” he said.

“I think it was how we reacted to the red card that was going to be crucial and although it was backs-against-the-wall, we did what we had to and it’s a job well done.”

He added: “It was a whirlwind ten minutes.

“We got the red card, then got the two goals quickly.

“I think I showed a bit of a striker’s instinct for my goal. It was an inch-perfect cross from Lee Holmes and it was only really me that could get in there, which I did.”

Johnson said the day was certainly one to remember.

“The atmosphere was brilliant and it made the hairs on the back of your neck stand up,” he said.

“Even after the sending-off, the fans got right behind us and we kept a good shape and I wouldn’t say that we were hanging on at the end.”
