BICESTER Hallions secured a well-deserved double as they beat Saxton Rovers 1-0 in the Oxfordshire Senior League Presidents Cup final.

Jamie Mundy’s fourth-minute strike proved the only goal of the game, with the lead preserved by Reece Green’s second-half penalty save from Michael Smith.

It completed a double-winning season for the Oxfordshire Senior League Premier Division champions, who ended the campaign unbeaten and finished ten points clear at the summit.

Hallions wrapped up the title with two games remaining and won 18 of their 22 matches, scoring 70 goals and conceding just 17.

Their only defeat came at Pitching In Southern League Division 1 Central side Thame United in the Oxfordshire Senior Cup quarter-final.

Hallions took their fantastic form into the Presidents Cup and looked to add more silverware in the final at Kidlington’s Yarnton Road ground.

Amid a flurry of early cautions, good work from Ryan Brooks, Liam Godin and Dan Bone enabled Mundy to roar through the Rovers defence and he fired past goalkeeper Ross Coles.

There was no lack of effort despite the sweltering conditions and the sin bin was brought into operation early on as both teams fought fiercely.

Hallions absorbed the Division One side’s pressure, while Brooks and Bone were thwarted by Coles before the break.

Green was cautioned for time-wasting early into the second half, but the goalkeeper was soon the hero.

Godin cleared a Patrick Mannix shot off the line moments before Rovers were awarded a penalty for handball eight minutes after the interval.

Smith stepped up, but Green saved the spot-kick to earn Hallions victory.
