JOE Iaciofano sealed Oxford City’s place in the Vanarama National League South play-offs with a 95th-minute penalty against Braintree Town.

The striker’s spot-kick earned the hosts a 1-1 draw at Court Place Farm, with visiting defender Luke Pennell sent off following the decision.

Gianni Crichlow’s header early in the second half put the strugglers ahead, but fifth-placed City gained the point they needed.

Ross Jenkins’ side started well and Jacob Bancroft was denied by a fingertip save from Billy Johnson after six minutes.

City were unable to breach the Braintree defence and Crichlow gave the visitors a surprise lead eight minutes after the interval.

The hosts failed to deal with a long throw and the winger punished them by heading home at the back post.

Khale Da Costa fired over the crossbar shortly after, before Jenkins brought on Ewan Clark and Elliot Benyon for Cole Dasilva and Bancroft.

Zac McEachran fired a deflected effort past the post, before Charlie Rowan headed against the woodwork six minutes from time in what looked like City's last chance.

There was still time for late drama, though, as Iaciofano’s penalty gave the hosts a valuable point.
