OXFORD City went fifth in Vanarama National League South as Reece Fleet’s goal gave them a 1-0 win over fellow play-off chasers Hungerford Town.

The midfielder’s strike just before half-time leaves the hosts needing only one more victory from their last five matches to guarantee a place in the top seven.

Chances were at a premium early on, but the game burst into life when Elliot Benyon shot wide following an excellent run.

Less than a minute later, Joe Iaciofano’s attempt had accuracy but lacked power as goalkeeper Luke Cairney dived low to his left to keep it out.

The game’s only goal came from one of the few moments of quality.

Iaciofano got to the byline and left one defender sprawling with a dummy, before picking out the onrushing Fleet to find the top corner.

Hungerford went close at the start of the second half, as a goalmouth scramble left Dudzinski stranded and Lewis Coyle cleared off the line.

Benyon inexplicably sent a diving header over, but a late flurry from the visitors had City hearts in their mouths.

Dudzinski saved well from Jake Evans, before Keith Emmerson saw another effort cleared off the line.

PITCHING In Southern League Premier Central champions Banbury United visit Hitchin Town tomorrow.

North Leigh will aim to close in on the Division 1 Central play-off places at FC Romania, while Didcot Town host Waltham Abbey and Thame United entertain Ware.
