CAMERON Brannagan has been named one of the top 50 players in the English Football League (EFL) thanks to his exploits this season.

The Oxford United midfielder placed 47th in FourFourTwo magazine’s annual list of the brightest stars in the Sky Bet Championship and Leagues One and Two.

The publication ranks him 11th in the third tier, with MK Dons forward Scott Twine the highest-rated in the division at 14th overall.

Brannagan has been instrumental to the U’s promotion push, missing just three of their 39 matches and playing more minutes than anyone in the squad.

The 25-year-old is United’s second top-scorer this season with 13 goals, including four penalties in the 7-2 thrashing of Gillingham in January.

Other highlights include a brilliant equaliser in the dramatic 3-2 triumph over Portsmouth on February 5 and a late winner from the spot at Shrewsbury Town earlier this month.

It came after United rejected multiple bids from Blackpool for the former Liverpool trainee in the January transfer window, with the final one believed to be £1million.

Brannagan has been part of FourFourTwo’s top 50 EFL players before, taking 29th in the 2020 list – nine positions above U’s teammate James Henry.

Two former United men also make the cut this year: defender Rob Dickie, now at Queens Park Rangers, is tenth and Blackburn Rovers midfielder Joe Rothwell ranks 31st.
