KARL Robinson issued a rallying cry as Oxford United look to turn around a poor run of results.

The U’s have taken one point from their last three games and have not scored in four hours of football.

It has seen them drop to 15th in Sky Bet League One ahead of back-to-back home matches against Gillingham tomorrow and Accrington Stanley on Tuesday.

Robinson says their disappointing form is not for the want of trying and called for a united front at the Kassam Stadium.

The U’s head coach said: “On Saturday, take the roof off the place.

“Off the back of some of the results that we’ve had, we’ll show you that we care.

“We know they (the fans) care.

“Together, our passion for the football club will show 100 per cent on Saturday at 3pm.”

United’s winless run was extended to four matches at Cheltenham Town last weekend, when they went 1-0 down and failed to respond.

There were a few boos from the away end at full-time and midfielder Mark Sykes went over to speak to the fans.

Robinson said: “We’re in an industry where people are always going to have an opinion.

“I still clap the fans when we get beat, because if you do it when you win you should do it when you lose. That’s part of our job.

“Sometimes when you catch somebody in your eyeline and it’s negative, you do want to have a conversation.

“I went to watch a game at North Leigh, there was a group of 20 (United) fans who have been hardcore fans for a long time.

“They have a really deep-rooted love for the football club.

“You see the passion in their eyes when they’re talking to you, how much they hurt and how frustrated they get with me and the players.

“The passion these people show is something you have to embrace and you accept the negativity when it comes along.”

OPINION: Oxford United could do with another Sam Long moment

United have had plenty of time on the training pitch during a frustrating September, with no Tuesday games for the last three weeks.

Players normally prefer to play as soon as possible after a defeat, but Robinson was relieved they did not have to go again three days after Cheltenham.

He said: “The reaction’s been good, because they’re great people.

“Sometimes me and my staff care that much that it hurts a little bit more.

“When you get beat you always want that game to put it right but I think it would’ve been difficult for us to play on Tuesday, because that result really cut us.

“There’s so many things that aren’t dropping for us right now and that’s frustrating, but you make your own luck.

“That’s been the message throughout the course of the week.”
