WE are almost seven weeks into the season, but the return of fans still feels like a novelty.
It was special to see Oxford United walk out to a packed away end at Cambridge United on the opening day, while the roar that met Ryan Williams’s goal against Charlton Athletic in the first home game will live long in the memory.
But the U’s supporters are yet to experience one unique feeling since they returned: a last-minute winner.

Gillingham’s last visit to the Kassam Stadium was arguably United’s game of the season, as they fought back from 2-0 down with 16 minutes left to win 3-2 and stay in touch with the play-offs.
The scenes after Sam Long’s 93rd-minute winner were wild even in an empty stadium, so imagine what it would have been like with fans in the ground.
After a promising August, United’s season has lost a little momentum over the last few weeks.
Nothing would bring the buzz back like a late winner on Saturday.
To experience that – after such a long time away – would be a special feeling.
