NORTH Leigh were knocked off the summit by Berkhamsted in a tense encounter at Eynsham Park.

Lewis Toomey's second-half strike saw the visitors take the points in a meeting of Pitching In Southern League Division 1 Central's top two.

It condemned the Millers to their first defeat of the season, while they are now below Berkhamsted on goal difference.

There was little to choose between the sides in an energetic first half, with North Leigh twice going close before the break.

Roger James collected Aaron Heap's pass and drilled in a shot that Xavier Comas Leon saved, before Ryan Neufville prevented Jordan Thomas putting the rebound into the net.

Lance Williams saw a header stopped by the goalkeeper a minute before half-time, as the sides went in level.

The game remained goalless as the hour mark came and went, but Toomey scored the decisive goal after 66 minutes.

Adam Watkins took possession and played in the forward, who made no mistake.

Millers boss Eddie Odhiambo made changes as he tried to find an equaliser, but the away side kept their clean sheet to claim a valuable victory.
