OXFORD United will not rush Elliott Moore’s return from a back injury.

The 24-year-old sustained the issue getting into his car last Friday and missed the 0-0 draw with Wycombe Wanderers 24 hours later.

United are monitoring the centre back closely and will make a late decision on his availability for Saturday’s visit to Cheltenham Town.

Head coach Karl Robinson said: “We’re seeing how he gets through training today.

“There’s some stiffness there. When you have a back issue you want to really put that to bed and that might take a little bit longer than it needs.

“We’ll make a decision over the next 24 hours.”

The U’s will do the same with striker Sam Winnall, who sustained a hip injury in training last week.

Moore played every minute in Sky Bet League One last season, but a chest infection and now his back problem have seen him feature in just three of United’s opening seven games.

It has given Luke McNally plenty of experience in his first full campaign in English football, while Anthony Forde has been Robinson’s go-to right back in Sam Long’s absence.

Long made his comeback from injury as a late substitute against Wycombe, but the U’s boss is not necessarily going to make changes at Cheltenham.

He said: “We will change if we think it’s right.

“I go back to that performance on Saturday as one of the ones I’ve enjoyed the most this season.

“We’ve had a good week, we’ve got a lot of things into them that we wanted to and we’re only going to keep getting better.”
