WE are used to hearing about higher-level clubs trusting Oxford United with their young prospects.
Since Kemar Roofe and George Baldock enjoyed successful loans under Michael Appleton more than six years ago, a steady stream of players have returned from loan spells at the Kassam Stadium better for the experience.
It happened to Nathan Holland during his brief time with the U’s early last year, which is why West Ham United were happy for the winger to return.

The 23-year-old is the latest in a string of players to return for second spells at United, which bodes well.
Of the club’s five summer signings, three have history with the U’s – whether it is Marcus McGuane’s loan last season, or Ryan Williams under Chris Wilder eight years ago.
In the last 18 months or so, we have seen Marcus Browne, Liam Kelly and Matty Taylor return after initial loan spells, although the pull of returning to his boyhood club was enough of a factor for the latter.
Footballers are always going to say the club they sign for was their first choice, but United’s standing in the football world and the number of players who return suggests that might not just be interview speak.
We may even see more re-join the U’s before the transfer window shuts.
