THE first week of regular coronavirus testing across the English Football League (EFL) revealed a sharp drop in cases.

Just 32 positive results were recorded out of 4,598 players and staff swabbed, with 53 of the 72 clubs reporting a clean bill of health.

It was the first round of twice-weekly testing, which is being funded by the Professional Footballers' Association (PFA).

The figures are a major improvement on the mandatory testing the previous week, when 123 of 4,038 players and staff were found to have coronavirus.

Only 31 teams confirmed a full set of negative results.

Oxford United were swabbed on Monday and Thursday, with one member of support staff testing positive in the first set of tests.

However, the U's will only report results from now on if there are positive cases.
