OXFORD United’s under 18s saw off Newport County 2-0 to make it four victories in a row and go top of the Youth Alliance League.

Adam Smith and Elijah Coe, below, struck before the break to put the U’s in control.

It means United, who beat rivals Swindon Town by the same scoreline in the League Cup last week, are the only side with a 100 per cent record after three rounds of matches.

The margin of victory could have been wider, with James Golding, Gatlin O’Dinkor and Smith all going close.

Coach Leon Blackmore Such told the club’s official website: “It’s been a very positive start from all of the boys.

“The first years have taken to it very quickly but they are getting help from the likes of Sam Johnson, Callum Crook and Jack Gardner who are that year older and are taking the extra responsibility really well.

“It’s a good start and we are delighted, but we will keep working and keep trying to improve because I think there is more to come from this group.”

Oxford Utd: Brearey, Watt, Nosakhare, Golding, Johnson, Gardner, Coe (Tiamuna 70), Anifowose (Grant 80), Trialist (Owens 57), Crook (O’Dinkor 61, Smith. Unused: Niemczycki.

Meanwhile, Leon Chambers-Parillon has joined Biggleswade Town on loan.

He teams up with Fabio Lopes, who was man of the match on debut in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Bromsgrove Sporting.
