The Oxfordshire Over 50s B team lifted the inaugural Chris Bishop Trophy with a comfortable six-wicket win over Gloucestershire at Aston Rowant.

Needing 211 to win from 40 overs, Oxfordshire got home with six overs to spare thanks to a century from opener Ben Watson (107).

The Harpsden batsman He was well supported by Oxford’s Ali Shah (32) and Sandford St Martin’s Mark Robey (32).

Witney Mills’ Steve Kelly had taken 3-30 as Gloucestershire were pegged back after a fast start.

Oxfordshire beat Gloucestershire, Worcestershire and Warwickshire to top their qualifying group, before seeing off Middlesex in the semi-final.

The competition is named after ex-Oxfordshire Under 19s manager Chris Bishop, who formed the Oxfordshire Over 50s B team in 2014 and died four years ago.

Oxfordshire captain Ross Buchanan said: “Chris Bishop was a much-loved man who inspired many cricketers, so I’m very proud that the first team name to be engraved on his trophy will be Oxfordshire.

"I know he’d be thrilled by that.”
