GARETH Ainsworth says he is very happy for Oxford United to be made favourites to win Monday’s Sky Bet League One play-off final.

The two sides will meet at Wembley on Monday to contest a place in the Championship.

While United began the season hoping they could be on the fringes of the play-off race, Wycombe started as third favourites to get relegated.

Bookmakers give Karl Robinson’s side the edge, but Ainsworth welcomed the chance to be seen as an underdog.

He said: “There’s a 90-minute game or 120-minute game at Wembley next Monday.

“Who knows what could happen.

“But I’ve got so much belief in this squad and what they can achieve with it.

“I’ve already heard people saying they think Oxford will just edge it.

“They think they’re the favourite, just about.

“That’s just great for me. Keep it going.”

He added: “I’ve got players running through brick walls for me

“I’ve got a bunch of boys here that were tipped to go down this season that have now made the play-off final.

“Whatever happens from here it’s been a successful story this season.”

On United, Ainsworth said: “It’s a local one for us and it will be a tasty one.

“If fans were allowed in I’m sure we’d pack it out, but unfortunately it’s going to be behind closed doors again.

“If they boys can give me what they have been giving me lately then we’ll have a real chance.

“They’re a good side and Karl Robinson’s a good guy, but we’re in the final and that’s all that matters.”
