WYCOMBE Wanderers will be without Jason McCarthy in the play-offs after announcing a number of cuts to deal with losses sustained in the lockdown.

They also include no longer topping up the salaries of non-football staff in the government's furlough scheme, who have been advised to look for alternative jobs when it ends.

The Chairboys are eighth in the Sky Bet League One table, but their game in hand would see them leap to third if clubs decide to curtail the season and use a points per game formula.

That would see them face Fleetwood Town, while Oxford United took on Portsmouth in the other semi-final.

But a statement from chairman Rob Couhig said the suspension of the season had seen the club rack up more than £1million in losses, which would increase by £350,000 per month.

He wrote: "If we are required to play games behind closed doors, whether to try to complete the season or in playoffs, these costs will go up."

The impact will be felt both among the non-football staff and Gareth Ainsworth's playing squad.

Couhig wrote: "We have informed all our non-football staff presently on furlough that their pay will be limited to that which we receive from the furlough plan.

"Through May 31, everyone has received 100 per cent of their pay. The club has made up the difference.

"Going forward, these furloughed employees will receive 80 per cent of their salary with a maximum payment of £2500 per month.

"We are also recommending that they begin the search for alternative employment once furlough ends.

"I have also informed our manager that the club will be without the services of Jason McCarthy.

"Jason is a wonderful player and a terrific guy. He was on loan to us from Millwall.

"While they and he were willing to extend the agreement through the remainder of this season, and he would unquestionably be helpful if play resumes in any circumstances, we simply can’t afford him."
