ROTHERWICK is set to become the first runner for former champion trainer Paul Cole and his son, Oliver, at Kempton tomorrow since taking out a
joint-licence at their Whatcombe stables, near Wantage.
The government gave the go-ahead at the weekend for the sport to return behind closed doors from today following a 76-day shutdown due to the coronavirus pandemic, with the action resuming at Newcastle.
And the Coles’ new-look operation moves into gear tomorrow when Rotherwick, who is to be ridden by Rossa Ryan, tackles a
mile-and-quarter handicap at the Sunbury track.
The eight-year-old faces 11 rivals including Dawry, from Heather Main’s Kingston Lisle yard, near Wantage.
The Coles, who are among the first to take advantage of a joint-licence, will also be represented on the
nine-race card by Mercenary Rose and Jazz Party.
Wantage trainer Henry Candy runs two newcomers at the meeting in Sceptred Isle and Marietty, who line up in maiden stakes.
