MATTY Taylor says he is fit to play a run of games for Oxford United after putting a knee injury behind him.

The striker started successive Sky Bet League One matches this week for only the third time this season.

But he was only in the XI at Burton Albion last night after Jamie Mackie pulled out due to a family bereavement.

Taylor went on to make one goal and score another in the 2-2 draw.

His loan from Bristol City has been hampered by occasional injuries and head coach Karl Robinson has tended to alternate Taylor and Mackie up front this season.

But the 29-year-old reckons he is getting closer to 100 per cent and can cope with the workload.

He said: "I’m fit to play whenever the gaffer chooses me.

"We were a bit careful with the type of injury (it was).

"I think I’ve only trained five or six times since I’ve been back because the games are coming thick and fast.

"But I’m raring to go, I feel fit. I felt sharper tonight (at Burton) than I did the other day.

"We did have a chat about it and there was slight caution on it because of the type of injury, which does hang around.

"But I feel confident striking the ball now, fingers crossed I can stay injury-free now and keep going."

Taylor's 11th goal of the campaign yesterday was a poacher's finish from close range in the 91st minute.

And the front man put it down to instinct.

He said: "I did see it coming to be fair. I just managed to stray into a good position.

"In those situations you just try to hover around the six-yard box and hope it comes towards you.

"Thankfully it did in the end and I just stuck out my left swinger and it went in the net."

Robinson believes the goal, Taylor's first in the league since November, will be a big confidence boost.

"It’s massive for him," the head coach said.

"He wasn’t due to play, he was meant to be rested because he was struggling a little bit.

"He was meant to come on for the last 25 minutes, that was the plan.

"He’s been out for a long time and we can’t afford to lose him either."
