OXFORD United will look to get back on track tonight after holding clear-the-air discussions in the wake of Saturday’s defeat at Peterborough United.

Boss Karl Robinson brought the squad in for an unscheduled session on Sunday to work through the 4-0 loss.

It ensured any issues were addressed without impacting their preparation time for this evening’s game at Burton Albion.

Josh Ruffels felt it was a useful exercise.

He said: “We had an honest meeting for about an hour and a half.

“We went through everything and how we go about it in the future.

“I think it really helps, everyone had an input.

“The team are really strong and I think it’s a good sign that we can do that.

“I don’t think we’ve had to come in on Sunday all season, which proves how well we have done.

“Last season we had a lot more, so you’ve just got to take it on the chin and hopefully it’s a good thing it’s happened and we can learn from it.”

One of the outcomes was a commitment to go the extra mile during a packed February.

Head coach Karl Robinson said: “It was a reset button.

“Sometimes it’s hard to manufacture a big debate or argument, whatever you want to call it, but I think it was needed.

“We cleared the air and I don’t think anybody left the training ground with any grey areas about what’s expected.

“We’re in every day now for the next two weeks.

“That was something the players spoke about on Sunday, not having any days off.

“They think it helps, the more we do the better they get. It was their decision.”

United start the night four points outside the play-off places, but Burton would go above them with a victory.

Ruffels said: “I think they’re only two points behind us, so it’s a massive game for us in that sense, because before you know it you can be mid-table and miles off the play-offs.

“We know how important this is.”

With Marcus Browne out injured, Anthony Forde could come into the squad for the first time since December.

The Irishman was available on Saturday, but did not make the bench after recovering from four broken ribs and a punctured lung.

He said: “I can’t wait to get back out there.

“It’s not my decision, it’s up to the staff when they feel it’s the right time to put me in.

“I’ll trust them on that and play whenever they want me to.”

He added: “We’re not in a bad position, we’ve had a few bad results but we’ve had a good season so far.

“You’re always going to get some losses, it’s how you react.

“I think we’ve got a good group.”
