What a busy week we have had ahead of today’s home game against Rotherham United.

I gave the players a couple of days off after beating Hartlepool United last weekend.

They deserved it and it kind of created a full stop after the Christmas games and meant we started fresh when we reported back.

I found it slightly harder to switch off, because on Monday I was at Wembley to talk to the FA about something I said to the officials the other week.

I thought people were supposed to look forward to going to the national stadium?

The result of my day out is that I won’t be in the dugout today, but will be in the stands watching on.

Somebody unkindly suggested that Faz (Derek Fazackerley) and Browny (Wayne Brown) were looking forward to it, but joking aside we are very lucky to have two such experienced men there on the side of the pitch.

Tuesday was spent on the phone trying to bring in new faces and, as you might expect, plenty of those calls were to Tiger and the board.

They have been excellent and have fully backed us during this transfer window.

I think we are in a wonderful position right now and we needed to strengthen, because I guarantee that the clubs around us will add to their squads over the next week or two.

I always plan to get our business done nice and early each time, but it’s rare for it to actually happen.

On Wednesday, we brought in Nathan Holland and Liam Kelly and then the next day Rob Atkinson and Marcus Browne came in.

I think other clubs will have sat up and taken notice because those are four outstanding players and all of them were being closely monitored by plenty of other clubs.

We have worked with them for a couple of days now and they have settled straight in.

Training has been excellent and today I have the best headache of all: selecting a team with so many players pushing for a start.

Simon Eastwood will be back after injury, Ben Woodburn has been back with us as well and there is such a buzz around the whole club right now.

If you are coming along then make the new players feel welcome and show them what we are all about.

And if you read this and are still debating whether to come and see the game then may I suggest you give us a try?

A good season has hopefully just got even more exciting.

In among all of those things we also had the draw for the FA Cup and will travel to either Rochdale or Newcastle United.

I think that’s a fantastic draw for us.

If it’s Rochdale then a League One side will get through to the last 16, which will be a brilliant incentive.

If it’s Newcastle, then our travelling fans get a chance to sample one of the best grounds in the whole country.

Whoever we end up playing, we will go there dreaming.
