ALEX Gorrin admitted he will enjoy a couple of days of rest after reaching his physical limit late in Oxford United’s draw at Portsmouth.

The squad will not get together until Wednesday this week as head coach Karl Robinson gives his players extra time to recover.

Unlike Pompey, they were in action in midweek for an intense Carabao Cup tie against Sunderland.

And on a heavy Fratton Park pitch the U’s did plenty of chasing in a bid to stay in the game, before scoring late on to draw 1-1.

Gorrin covered more ground than most – and was feeling it at the end.

“My hamstrings were screaming at the end when I sprinted back to get into the box,” he said.

“But I was just thinking ‘get through it, then you’ve got a couple of days off’.

“I’m looking forward to a bit of rest, but I won’t get too carried away because then we come back and have to do it all over again.”

United were forced into a defensive reshuffle in the first half after Josh Ruffels joined a lengthy injury list.

It saw Sam Long switch flanks to left back, with central defender Rob Dickie moving to right back.

Gorrin said: “They did brilliantly and got on with it.

“It shows no-one is complaining, they just got on with it and adapted to overcome the situation.

“I think it’s a strength of the team.

“I don’t think you would say we have any superstars, everyone just works for each other to do well.”
