OXFORD United have been dealt a big blow after discovering Ben Woodburn could be sidelined until the new year.

The Liverpool loanee broke a bone in his left foot after being brought down early in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Accrington Stanley.

U’s boss Karl Robinson said: “Woody’s seeing a specialist tomorrow and the worst-case scenario would be three months, but it could be a lot less than that.

“I think it’s the fifth metatarsal that he’s fractured.”

He added: “He was the catalyst to a lot of our good play this season.

“If you look over recent weeks we didn’t have him at Fleetwood and we looked way below par.

“He came off on Saturday and we looked a little bit below par, so it’s a big loss.”

Anthony Forde also picked up a groin injury on Saturday, when he slipped on the pitch.

The winger is due for a scan this afternoon, but Robinson admitted it “doesn’t look great”.
