OXFORD United are scoring goals for fun at the moment, but there was one that stood out for boss Karl Robinson on Saturday.

While James Henry hit a double in the 3-0 win over Gillingham, it was his assist for Matty Taylor which had the head coach applauding.

The through ball was expertly converted by the on-loan Bristol City striker and Robinson hopes it is something the U’s can replicate.

He said: “We’re scoring goals at will. The pleasing ones as a manager are the ones you work on.

“We’ve spoken about Matty opening up the back four because he wants to run in behind and get his

one-versus-ones.

“That’s why we brought him in, he gives us tremendous versatility to how we want to play.

“That goal was the one I was most pleased with, because it’s something we think we can do more of.”

Robinson has praised the all-round effort from his squad during a terrific few days.

They have the chance to strengthen those links with a team-bonding exercise today.

It had been scheduled for next month when Robinson thought the Doncaster Rovers game would be postponed by international selection.

But that now looks likely to be limited to just Ben Woodburn and Shandon Baptiste, one short of the number of call-ups needed to call a game off.

It means the players and staff are having a change of scene today instead, organised by skipper John Mousinho and Jamie Mackie.

Coming days after a disastrous night out for Derby County’s squad, Robinson stressed everyone knew their responsibilities.

He said: “I just thought it was the right time to get together.

“I think we’re playing darts.

“We’ve tried some peculiar sports already this year.

“The players enjoyed aunt sally, but we got told off because a few of the windows at the training ground got very close to being hit.

“We’ll try to stick together and no silly behaviour – that’s been a topic of the week.”
