THE income boost from Kemar Roofe’s sell-on clause is very welcome at Oxford United, but will not be used to increase the playing budget.

A six-figure sum will be making its way to the U’s as a result of the forward’s move from Leeds United to Anderlecht this week, thanks to a clause in the deal which took him to Elland Road in 2016.

Some may have hoped it could be used to help United’s search for a striker in the transfer market.

But head coach Karl Robinson is not expecting to see any of the windfall, which he believes will be invested in other areas.

“It will go elsewhere,” the head coach said.

“A lot of internal things are happening at the moment that legally we can’t speak about, but we’re hoping to get something with the money that can consolidate us for years to come.

“That’s more important than over-spending on the pitch.

“I’m not here to bleed the club dry.

“We have to make sure of the health and internal growth of the club so it’s here for a long period.

“This money will hopefully go to something that will make us a better club.”
