OXFORD United will visit Ibrox next month for a pre-season friendly against Glasgow Rangers.

The long-awaited announcement of a marquee fixture outside of England on Sunday, July 7 (3pm), completes the U’s schedule of warm-up matches.

They will fly directly to Scotland from Portugal, where the squad will spend a week in a training camp.

It comes four days before the Scottish side play the first leg of their Europa League first round qualifier.

United secured the game due to a connection between boss Karl Robinson, who began his coaching career at Liverpool’s academy, and his Rangers counterpart Steven Gerrard.

The United head coach said: “For everybody to perform at Ibrox is an unbelievable opportunity.

“There will probably be more than 30,000 there for that game, it just shows you the enormity of the club.

“I think they will play in Europe on the Thursday, so it will be a decent game for them to get warmed up going into that tie.

“It’s important we give them a good enough challenge, even though we’ll be going into it on the back of being in Portugal and running our socks off.

They go on sale from 5pm this Friday (June 7) to season ticket holders.

They go on general sale online from 4.30pm on Thursday, June 13 and from the ticket office from 9:30am on Friday, June 14.
