INDONESIAN entrepreneur Anindya Bakrie has become the latest addition to Oxford United’s board.

The 44-year-old has a background in media and telecommunications in his homeland and is connected with Erick Thohir, who was appointed as a director at the U’s last November.

Both are from two of Indonesia’s richest families and have worked together to run a television network in the country.

Bakrie was pictured with United owner Sumrith ‘Tiger’ Thanakarnjanasuth several months ago and watched on from the directors’ box at the Kassam Stadium last weekend for the 2-2 draw with Doncaster Rovers.

He told United's website: "I love the city of Oxford and was intrigued when Tiger started to outline his plans for the city’s football club.

"I went along to the FA Cup game at Brentford and saw a team fighting for everything and a packed away end full of fans who love their club and I knew that day that I would like to be involved in some way.

"I have great faith in Tiger and together we want to build a successful football team. I will be there to offer any help or guidance he or the board might need.”

Tiger added: "I have known Anin for a long time and he is a good man as well as being hugely successful in business all around the world.

"We have assembled a very strong board now and we all share the same passion for sport and for football in particular."
