I WAS watching Sky Sports News the other morning and had half an eye on the panel on the right where the league tables come up.

It switched to the bottom half of League One and just for a second it caught me out, because we weren’t on it!

Let me tell you, it’s better to be the bottom club on page one than on page two!

It has been a great effort from everyone involved to pull us away from the danger zone, but we are not happy to be 12th.

That’s not where we set out to be at the start of the season and we want to keep progressing and see just how far up the table we can finish.

I think we have been pretty consistent in the second half of the season and our form is right up there with the teams in the play-offs.

We just left it too late before we got started, but I have been consistent in my message that once things settled down and we got everyone fit we would be as good as any team in the division.

Simon Eastwood coming back was a big thing for us and gave us some stability and a calming influence at the back.

I also think our transfer business in January was very positive.

Jerome Sinclair and Jordan Graham have been good, and in the last few games Ahmed Kashi has been outstanding in midfield. He doesn’t say much, but when he does people listen.

I have worked with him before and when we sent analysis videos to players I’ve known him go round to their house to talk it through with them at night!

The other signing in January was Mark Sykes and he is another who will get his chance and I am sure be a big player for this club.

It’s a similar situation to Gavin Whyte in that they both played in Northern Ireland and have that refreshing outlook on life where they want to learn, want to improve all the time and play with a free spirit which the fans always find exciting.

Gavin will be available again when we travel to Walsall today.

It’s a big game and we know lots of fans will be there to support us.

Win today and maybe I won’t have to keep checking page two of the table for a little while.

BRIAN Clough used to have the expression that ‘it only takes a second to score a goal’, but I wouldn’t mind it not being the LAST second before we win the game!

Twice now, against Bradford City and Wycombe Wanderers, we have claimed victory in the most dramatic of fashions and the whole ground has erupted in celebration.

The second Josh Ruffels picked up the ball last Saturday I looked at the back post to see who was there for the cross.

Instead, he lifted the ball up and over the keeper for a fantastic goal.

What a moment, and a reward for one of the unsung heroes of our recent form.

It won’t be far away from winning our goal of the season award, and it will be interesting to see how Ruffs does in the player of the season votes.

He has been involved in some big moments and if it was awarded for consistency, I think he would be well in the running.
