To mark Oxford United’s 125th season, we are looking back at what made the news this week in three of the club's promotion-winning campaigns
1964
A POINT from Doncaster with an inexperienced forward line was, on the face of it, a good result for Oxford United.
But the bare bones of the 2-2 scoreline did not tell the full story.
Faced by as vulnerable a defence as they are likely to meet all season, United raced into a 2-0 lead with goals from John Fahy and Tony Jones.
But it only needed a borderline penalty decision to put Doncaster back in the game and they equalised just before the hour mark.

OXFORD United handed a halloween shocker to First Division leaders Arsenal on another incredible Milk Cup night at the Manor.
It rekindled memories of the victory over Manchester United a year before.
United were outplayed early on, but sheer guts brought them back to lead 2-1 at
half-time with goals from John Aldridge and Billy Hamilton.
Arsenal drew level, but Dave Langan’s first goal for the club was a 35-yard rocket to beat Pat Jennings.
Langan said: “My last from open play came about six years ago – a 25-yarder against Pat Jennings. I don’t think he likes playing against me.”
1995
HALLOWEEN became a night of horror for Oxford United as they slumped to a fifth defeat in seven games with a 2-0 loss at lowly Shrewsbury.
It was a scoreline that made a mockery of the play as the U’s created and missed chance after chance.
United are down to 14th, a frightening 12 points adrift of the promotion places and only four points clear of the relegation zone.
Boss Denis Smith said: “I’ve got a good squad but I’m not getting results from them.
“We’re not taking our chances and all of a sudden we’re giving silly goals away, it’s so frustrating.
“My pressure is always self-imposed. We will get over this. I am a winner.”
