KARL Robinson hopes the manner of Oxford United’s third goal against Shrewsbury Town was symbolic of a change in fortunes.

The U’s head coach has felt his side have been on the wrong end of some key refereeing decisions this season.

But he could hardly criticise Martin Coy, who accidentally intercepted a Shrews pass late on.

United seized on the loose ball to allow Marcus Browne to race through and seal the 3-0 victory.

Robinson said: “We had a bit of luck for the third one.

“That’s the first I’ve seen since I’ve been manager of this club, so a little bit more please would be nice.”

Another bugbear this season has been the U’s conversion rate, but here they scored with every shot on target.

Robinson said: “We’ve battered teams here and created chance after chance which we’ve missed and then made a mistake to lose.

“That wasn’t the case here, Shrewsbury stopped us from creating the amount of chances we’ve been making of late.

“You wouldn’t say our chances today were chances, they were half-chances at best.”

Meanwhile, Robinson will watch Nile Ranger today as United’s under 23 side play a friendly at Peterborough United.

The U’s boss is well aware the striker, who has a chequered past, will divide opinion among supporters.

But there is a willingness to give the free agent a chance to boost a striking department which lost Jon Obika to a serious injury earlier this month.

He said: “It’s not something I’m going to do right away.

“He’s got to prove to me he can be in on time, he’s got to prove to me he’s fit and can fit into this team.

“He’s got to prove to the fans he’s in a better place than he’s been before.”
