OXFORD University say they will continue to ensure the Kassam Stadium pitch provides the ‘best playing surface possible’.

Having taken over the responsibility ahead of Oxford United’s home match with Luton Town last week, the university will again be looking after the surface for tonight’s Checkatrade Trophy game with Northampton Town and Saturday’s Sky Bet League One clash against Plymouth Argyle.

They are then hopeful of extending the arrangement until the end of the season.

Oxford University Sport took over the preparation and maintenance services for the Kassam Stadium pitch from Friday, September 28,” they said in a statement.

“This covered the game against Luton last Tuesday and the next two home matches, with the expectation (pending contractual agreement) of extending the arrangements until the end of the season.

“Oxford Sport managed the pitch maintenance at the Kassam from 2010-2013 and look forward to working closely with both Firoka and OUFC in their efforts to provide the best playing surface possible.”

Greenfields had been employed by the stadium company, who are responsible for the upkeep of the pitch under the terms of their agreement with Oxford United.

But Michael Doyle, general manager of the Kassam Stadium, said they were unable to comment on the change due to ongoing legal issues, with Greenfields stating they were also not in a position to say anything.
