KARL Robinson admitted Oxford United's defeat at AFC Wimbledon summed up their season in a nutshell.

The U's remain second bottom in Sky Bet League One after the 2-1 defeat, where Cameron Brannagan was on target for the visitors.

But yet again they were left wondering how they came away with nothing from a game which they largely controlled.

Robinson said: "I can only go on the facts, which are we’ve dominated the game, created more goalscoring opportunities and not taken them.

"That’s the crux of the season."

Wimbledon opened the scoring with Scott Wagstaff's header, before a mistake by John Mousinho allowed Joe Pigott to double the lead.

Robinson said: "OK, Mous made an error for the goal, but they made a lot more errors than us.

"They gave a lot more passes away and we didn’t capitalise. It’s been the story of what I said since day one. I can’t go on the pitch and score.

"My job is to make sure we make opportunities and I think week-in, week-out we’re dominating games home and away and not getting what we truly deserve.

"Or do we? Because if you don’t take your chances, you don’t deserve anything."

Branngan pulled a goal back just before half-time, but the result meant his first career goal meant little.

He said: "It’s a goal, but I don’t really care, I’m more interested in the three points and we’ve not got them, so I’m disappointed.

"We’ve got players in there that are capable of doing whatever they want. I say it every week and it frustrates me.

"We need to be more clinical in front of goal, we need to be in the right positions and anticipating when it comes in the box.

"There were times when the ball was going in the box and there was only one person in there. We need to be anticipating those chances.

"They scored two and the team they are they just sat behind the ball, defended and dug out the result.

"That’s what they do and fair play to them. We’re miles better than we showed."
