FIVE Oxfordshire doctors signed a letter endorsing plans by medics to contest Parliamentary elections over a shake-up of the NHS.

The letter in The Independent on Sunday said plans to give most budgets to GPs would “lead to the abolition of the NHS in England”.

And it vowed to target 50 coalition seats, warning the plans have “no democratic mandate” from voters.

The doctors were: Professor of tumour pathology Francesco Pezzella; Professor of public health epidemiology Klim McPherson; psychiatrist Dr Valeria Frighi; consultant psychiatrist Dr Peter Agulnik and retired Oxford consultant psychiatrist Dr Jacqueline Ferguson.
