FAMILY and friends helped a grandmother-of-five celebrate her 100th birthday yesterday.

Edith Hatton, known as Billie, was the guest of honour at her party in the Tall Trees home in Shipton-under-Wychwood.

Mrs Hatton, nee Gadd, was born in 1912 and raised in Clayton, Manchester.

She left school at 14 to help run her mother’s florist shop. She was married to husband Gerry in 1944 and spent the war years working as a Red Cross nurse and an air raid warden.

The couple had two children, Angela and David, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr Hatton passed away in 2002.

They lived together in Milton-under-Wychwood from 1978 until Mrs Hatton, pictured right, moved into the care home in 2010.

She said: “I am turning 100 years old and it’s nice to see everyone here at my party.”

Daughter Angela Townsend said: “Everyone here at the home is lovely.

“They’ve really taken mum to their hearts.

“She’s had a lovely day.”
