Sir – I sympathise with the problems experienced by your reader last week trying to use the park-and-ride after 9am. It has become impossible to take the risk of parking at Thornhill if one has a flight to catch, or an appointment in London or Oxford.
As was pointed out, one of the problems is that spaces are being taken up by hospital workers. I would like to point out that hospital staff have no option. They are told to use park-and-ride facilities. Parking permits (which were previously bought by the staff) are no longer being issued to staff working social hours.
This has made life particularly difficult not only for would-be users of the park-and- ride, but also for hospital staff, many of whom who have to allow considerable extra time to get to and from work and are no longer able to combine work with school runs.
