A MOTHER has said she was “horrified” when a toy she bought for her daughter started to swear at them.

Leigh McPherson, 20, from Banbury, bought a “My Pal Violet” cuddly puppy from Asda as a present for her daughter’s first Christmas.

It was supposed to help her four-month-old daughter, Mia, learn to talk — but Ms McPherson said she couldn’t believe what happened when she pressed its paw.

She said: “We opened the toy on Boxing Day, plugged it in and then it started to sing. We couldn’t believe it.”

The cuddly toy proceeded to sing: “If you’re happy and you know it, f*** with me; if you’re happy and you know it, f*** with me; if you’re happy and you know it, and you really want to show it, if you’re happy and you know it f*** with me.”

Ms McPherson said: “I just thought it would be a nice Christmas present for her — but I was horrified when I heard it.

“I’ve played it to my friends and we’re all sure it’s saying a swear word.

“No one believed me at first, but when they heard it, they all started to laugh.”

LeapFrog toys, manufacturers of the £22 My Pal Violet, have now recalled all of the toys and sent an apology letter to Ms McPherson. And she will be sent a replacement, which, she has been assured, will not swear.

She said: “We’re quite lucky because Mia is too young to understand what it is saying.

“But my three-year-old niece, Madison, came round the other day and picked it up without us realising.

“Now she keeps singing the song and we can’t stop her.”

A spokesman from manufacturers LeapFrog Toys said: “We take all customer complaints extremely seriously. It is evident that the voice recording has been misinterpreted. We have apologised to the family.”
