Two people have been arrested on suspicion of shoplifting as a vehicle was stopped more than 17 miles from where the alleged offence took place.

Thames Valley Police officers stopped a vehicle in Five Mile Drive in the Cutteslowe area of Oxford this afternoon (May 2). 

The two occupants were arrested for an alleged shoplifting offence in Bicester

A statement from Thames Valley Police's Road Policing team said: "The vehicle had been active in another force area and following the stop, stolen property was recovered from a local store."

The arrest comes on the day people across the county went to the polls to vote for the police and crime commissioner (PCC) for the Thames Valley Police force area.

The PCC is tasked with holding officers to account and setting the annual budget for their force among other tasks.
