Tributes have been left at an Oxford park after a woman was found dead there.

Police officers and cars descended on Shotover Country Park in Headington early on Thursday morning (March 21).

It was later announced in the evening by Thames Valley Police that a woman had been found dead at the site.

The 28-year-old was found at around 6:45am on Thursday with police now investigating as an “unexplained death”.

Sections of the park had been closed off to the public with three separate police taped cordons in place. These remained in place for much of Friday, March 22.

A bunch of yellow flowers had been laid for the deceased near one of the police cordons.

A police van, three cars and two officers were at the scene to guard the cordons on Friday, March 22.

These taped off paths block the entry to a section of woods within the park which covers 117 hectares on the southern slopes of Shotover Hill.

One of the officers at the site said: “I’ve been here since 7.30am.

“I’m here to man the nature park, and essentially that’s what we are doing, stopping people from going in.

“There are three cordons in place but you can appreciate the fact it’s a difficult area to cordon off.

“The nature reserve isn’t all cordoned off or anything, it’s just the area we have cordoned off right now.”

The woman’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specially trained officers.

Senior investigating officer, detective chief inspector Wojciech Spyt added: “Firstly, my condolences go to the woman’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.

“We are investigating the circumstances of her death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.

“The park itself is closed to the public while we manage the scene, which is likely to remain in place for some time.

“I’d ask the public to please avoid the area while our enquiries are ongoing.
