Headington prep’s chamber choir has once more triumphed at the annual Oxford festival of music, winning the Edmund Rubba Cup for their school. The festival was held on Saturday 26th of January at Cherwell school, and the choir class were in the Under 11s section. They now have held the title for 5 consecutive years, showing the relentless perseverance of the choir in order to maintain a consistent standard of exceptionalism.

Mrs Evetts, head of music at Headington Prep (situated in the heart of Oxford) continues to conduct the girls various songs, guiding them in order to enable them to reach their full musical potential. The trick towards such excellent performances is, according to Mrs Evetts, ‘to focus on the ending of musical phrases to always give a polished performance’.

What particularly makes this collaborative effort so impressive is the limited time frame after Christmas in which they had to fully formulate two entirely new pieces, however the Prep choir were able to diligently overcome this hurdle by investing a significant amount of unwavering commitment to the cause. The two songs that achieved a distinction were ‘We Are The Future’ by Douglas Coombes and ‘From A Railway Carriage’ by Nico Muhly; both contrasting yet equally moving pieces.

The choir’s confidence should not go unnoticed, particularly when performing a rehearsal in front of the entire of Headington’s upper school and of course at the festival itself, as it is admirable to not be daunted by large audiences at such a young age.

We hope to see more Headington Prep Chamber Choir successes in the future!
