Mini has announced a new petrol version of its three-door hatch, the Cooper, which has been built at the company's production site in Oxford.

The car will debut in the UK this spring with prices starting from £22,300.

It will be offered in two specifications - the entry point Cooper C model and the Cooper S.

The Cooper C sports a three-cylinder, 1.5-litre engine producing 154bhp, an upgrade of 20bhp from its predecessor.

It can go from nought to 60mph in 7.5 seconds and has a fuel efficiency of up to 47mpg.

On the other hand, the Cooper S utilises a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine, offering a nought to 60mph time of 6.4 seconds.

Both specifications will be equipped with an automatic gearbox as standard.

The Cooper borrows its interior design from its electric counterpart, featuring a large central OLED screen for media and navigation.

Chrome edging has been removed entirely from the new Cooper, which now sports circular LED headlights, available with three optional light ‘signatures’.

Buyers will have an option of three trim styles: classic, exclusive and sport.

All trims will include the OLED screen, while the exclusive trim offers extras such as 17-inch alloy wheels and a blue interior.

The sport trim introduces a full sports transmission with steering wheel-mounted gear paddles, 18-inch John Cooper Works alloy wheels and exterior styling components.
