Winston Churchill's false teeth have been sold at auction for £18,000.

The sale took place at The Cotswold Auction Company's February auction, where the dentures were sold as apart of a large collection of memorabilia.

Churchill's gold-mounted dentures were crafted by his dentist, Sir Wilfred Fish, with assistance from Sir Wilfred's technician, Derek Cudlipp.

The dentures were previously bought by Gloucestershire-based collector, George Ridgeon, in 2010, after Mr Cudlipp's son had them auctioned.

Mr Ridgeon's collection included a range of historical pieces up for bid in the sale.

One such item was a microphone, believed to have been used by Churchill to declare the end of World War Two on VE Day.

The microphone fetched £11,500 in the auction.

The sale attracted international interest, with buyers from the United States as well as the UK placing phone bids.

Director Liz Poole said: “We were absolutely delighted with the international interest in the sale of Churchill’s false teeth and other memorabilia.

“The story generated global media coverage and featured in the news as far away as Canada, the US, and Poland.

“In successfully bidding on the teeth, the buyer has snapped up a unique piece of our country’s history.”

The memorabilia collection was auctioned at the saleroom in Cheltenham on February 6.
