Upcoming Sister Act Performance

The Henley College’s performing arts and music students, and teachers, have been busy working on their performance of the UK and Broadway’s smash hit musical ‘Sister Act’ and it’s not too late to get tickets.

The musical comedy, based on the Touchstone Pictures motion picture ‘’Sister Act’’ written by Joseph Howard will take place at the Kenton Theatre, Henley-on-Thames on the three evenings listed below:

Tuesday 30 January, 19:30

Wednesday 31 January, 19:30

Thursday 1 February, 19:30

Friday 2 February, 19:30

In the fantastical story we follow rebellious disco diva Delores (played by the spectacular Rhi Gildea) witness a murder, to which she had no involvement, and in order to hide herself she goes to the last place anyone would ever look for her: the protected custody of a convent.

The well-known tale is being loyally retold with original music from 8-time Oscar winner Alan Menken with lyrics by Glenn Slater not to mention the additional book material by Douglas Carter Beane which builds on the original book by Cheri and Bill Steinkellner. The live music inspired by Motown, Disco and Soul will be played by the incredibly talented music students from The Henley College.

This outstanding show is truly magical and will whisk you away to the thrillingly mischievous life of Delores and her new found friends who she is trying to persuade to try singing a more modern style of music than their traditional hymns. The entire cast are marvellously talented both at singing, as well as acting, and they all have angelic voices that will engross you even further into their story. It is only fair that some of the hard-working performing arts students at The Henley College let you hear what they have to say about Sister Act and their time at The College. Note: PA stands for Performing Arts.

Jay Denton who plays Pablo in the musical comedy said this about his time working on the show: ‘’Being a part of the PA community in The Henley College has allowed me to meet new people who are all clearly so passionate about PA and are just lovely people. This college has taught me so much about performing arts and I’ve loved being able to experience new experiences and performances such as Sister Act. I’ve enjoyed being a part of Sister Act so much this year and all rehearsals have been so fun. I’ve loved every single moment of my time here as everyone is so welcoming and accepting.‘’

Not only this but Poppy Barker (who plays Mansignor O’Hara) said ‘’I am enjoying being a performing arts student as this course has taught me so many new skills I can apply to my later life. Sister Act has developed my patience and has allowed me to gain new friendships. I enjoy playing my role in Sister Act as it is so different from any other parts I have played in my time at Henley college, Sister Act has let me step out of my comfort zone and improve my acting skills.’’
