A donkey from Oxfordshire won the latest championship show organised by the Donkey Breed Society.

A donkey from the Island Donkey Sanctuary in Brightwell-Cum-Sotwell has won the supreme championship run by the Donkey Breed Society for the second year in a row.

The Donkey Breed Society runs a championship each year at Morrell College in Warwickshire and the event this year was held on Saturday (August 19) and marked the 50th anniversary of the first championship.

Perehill Magical Moments, which is owned by Linda Chilton and John McLaren, was crowned Supreme In-hand Champion and the In-hand Reserve Champion went to Blue Manor Monte Carlo, which is owned by Mrs Lorraine Rae who is from Bamburgh in Northumberland.

Donkey Breed Society Chair Rosemary Clark told the Oxford Mail: “This has been a marvellous event.

“As ever, turnout was of a very high standard and members came from far and wide.

“The donkeys were the stars of the show.”

The Young Rider Champion went to Olivia Mingham, which is owned by Mrs O. Brown who lives in Cheshire.

The society was first conceived as the Donkey Show Society in 1967 and it aims to “encourage the good breeding and improvement of the status of the Donkey”.

The society works throughout nine regions and aims to “enrich the lives of valued long ears, develop welfare and support research”.
