OXFORD United’s proposed move to Stratfield Brake is set to be discussed by councillors this evening.

On the agenda at Kidlington Parish Council’s annual parish meeting is ‘the future of Stratfield Brake’.

Representatives from Oxfordshire County Council and Cherwell District Council will be able to answer questions.

Parish council vice-chair David Betts said: “The parish council needs to understand what it is Oxford United are proposing, and those details aren’t yet finalised.

“We anticipate people will want to ask questions and that’s why there’s representatives from the county who will be there.”

Both Kidlington, and Gosford and Water Eaton Parish Council, sub-lease the land at Stratfield Brake.

The U’s want to lease almost 45 acres of county council-owned land for 250 years, but cannot do this without agreement from the tenants and sub-tenants at the site.

In March, the county council’s cabinet voted to let officers pursue detailed discussions over United’s proposal for Stratfield Brake, south of Kidlington.

The club wants to lease the land, with a view to building an 18,000-capacity stadium with community and sports grounds, and hotel, retail and conference facilities.

United’s license agreement at the Kassam Stadium expires in 2026, after which they will be homeless.
