A Kent man was caught on CCTV using a knife to threaten a group of men.

Sam Jones, 27, had been due to stand trial on allegations he was in possession of the knife outside the MooMoo nightclub on May 17, 2019, and used it to threaten others.

But before his trial could get underway at Oxford Crown Court, Jones, of Bayly Road, Dartford, pleaded guilty to possession of a bladed article. He will be sentenced on August 12.

Two hours before Jones entered his plea, Judge Michael Gledhill QC was played footage from a camera on Banbury High Street, which showed the defendant get out the driver’s side of a red hatchback and chase after a small group of men.

The judge asked defence barrister Ronan McCann why his client hadn’t simply driven away. The lawyer said it was the second time Jones had passed the club. He’d become lost attempting to navigate central Banbury. “The defendant isn’t from the area,” Mr McCann said.

The court heard there was background to the incident. Earlier in the evening there had been ‘some disorder’, his barrister said.
