OXFORD City Council hopes to reduce its carbon emissions by investing more than £3m in a solar farm north of the city.

The council's cabinet is due to discuss approving the £3,385,200 loan to Low Carbon Hub when it meets tonight (June 16).

The solar farm, called Ray Valley Farm, is based at Arncott, a village north of the city near HMP Bullingdon.

The cash the council is lending out ultimately comes from £10.9m funding Oxford City Council won from the Government, which is aimed at reducing carbon emissions across the city.

A report to the council's cabinet says the investment in the solar farm, run by the company Low Carbon Hub, would help to meet the city council's plans to become zero emissions by 2030.
